A
wintry drive up to Edinburgh in expectation of the revelry to come and we were not
disappointed!
The grand old city was
abuzz with fun and
excitement in preparation for the main event.

Medieval flamming contraptions filled the Royal Mile

and of course - the lone piper playing the familiar lament.
The drive back down took us via the east coast with raging seas but beautiful glimpsies of Holy Island living up to its name in the winter sun.

The holy theme seemed to continue as we stayed over in the cathedral cities of Durham and York.

The regal Durham Cathedral looked magnificent clad in shimmering snow.
