Up in the clouds!

I´m sitting high up in the mountains abouve Ushuaia town on a comfy cushion of very hardy and beautiful flora. Alan has gone on up to the higher level to reach the glacier – my intrepid explorer! But I know my limitations and the climb has been challenging. Rough crumbling rocks – a steep climb with blustering wind alternating with glistening occasional sun and mizzle.

There are a few other like-minded explorers dotted about but the predominant sounds are of the constantly sshussing of the mountain melt water dancing its way over the rocks and the whistling of the wind. The air is sharp and occasionally icy but clean and fresh with an evocative scent of undeterminable herbs and alpine flowers. There is a solitude and not unpleasant sense of euphoria - probably due to the reduced oxygen at this altitude some may say but I think it’s exhilaration at having made it up here and the not undoubting prospect of descent!!

Alan returns from the summit (or somewhat nearer than I) - jubilant! The brave man. So with a wind behind us – the descent – here goes!!

Such elation – we made it!! Now chocolate cake and coffee to celebrate!!

One for Laura!

  2. It's reassuring to know you can get chocolate cake at the other side of the world.....

  3. Yep, it's good to know that both the chocolate and the travelers are looking good so far... But how will the chocolate cope in the antarctic waters? In anticipation of pictures of euphoric confectionary, we eagerly await further reports.
